Unaccompanied Children -

Immigrant or Refugee?Edit

Immigrant or Refugee?

Public outrage over the number of unaccompanied children crossing the border has many questioning why a parent would be send their child to an unknown land and risk assault and even death.

Then tendency to blame current administration for the border crisis is yet another example of inaccurate information running rampant. It is a law signed by President George W. Bush in 2008 that has many sending their children unaccompanied.  The William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Action Act addresses the issue of global child slave trade.  It is this law that allows for children to be given a full immigration hearing at which the determination of validity for asylum.

Reasons for Influx

With the increased incidence of violence in Central American countries, parents live in fear that their children will be forced into gangs and prostitution thereby qualifying them under the trafficking law.  It is this law that is now being touted as the reason for the influx of migrant children.  It is interesting to note that many who accuse migrants of breaking the law are unaware or choose to ignore the law that protects these children from immediate deportation.
